Over 35,000 people visited the Marikina City cemeteries on the first day of Undas, or All Saints’ Day, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.

According to Marikina Police, cemetery visitors totaled around 35,830 on November 1.

Police logged a peak in visitor counts at Loyola Memorial Park, Barangka Public Cemetery, and four other cemeteries in the city at 7:00 p.m. yesterday.

Marikina City Police Chief PCol. Jenny DC Tecson personally inspected the situation at these cemeteries, which logged only 33 confiscated items such as alcoholic beverages, lighters, and perfumes—slightly fewer items than had been confiscated in larger cemeteries in better-known cities.

Authorities declared the safety of the Marikina cemeteries as manageable, including the Loyola Memorial Park, to which 25,000 visitors flocked.

Nineteen thousand Undas visitors remained at the private cemetery and spent the entire night.

While the Philippine National Police (PNP) declared November 1 as “peaceful,” they continue to monitor cemeteries, terminals, and other places of convergence.

PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. advised the public to be vigilant and secure their belongings, especially if they choose to leave their homes for the occasion.

The PNP remains on full alert until November 3.
