Over 35,000 families affected in 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao — OCD

The Office of Civil Defense reported that thousands of families have been affected following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao, with confirmed casualties continuing to rise as response operations intensify.

In a live update on June 10, OCD Officer-in-Charge Asec. Bernardo Rafaelito R. Alejandro IV said the disaster has impacted 35,673 families across 199 barangays, with thousands currently displaced.

“Magandang tanghali po sa ating lahat. Ako po ay magbibigay ngayon ng updates… relative to our response to the 7.8 earthquake na nangyari sa Philippines,” Alejandro said.

He reported that 6,314 families (around 24,228 individuals) are currently staying in 45 evacuation centers, while an additional 1,815 families remain outside evacuation facilities.

In terms of casualties, Alejandro confirmed 45 deaths, 630 injuries, and 17 missing persons, with the majority of affected areas located in General Santos City, Davao Occidental, and Sarangani.

“Meron po tayong 45 reported dead casualties, 630 injured at 17 na missing,” he added.

Authorities continue to coordinate with local government units and member agencies to provide relief assistance, conduct search and rescue operations, and assess further damage in heavily affected communities.
