More than 3,000 protesters gathered outside the Senate on Friday, the 37th day of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial, calling for her conviction and removal from office.
Aktebo Bayani, national president of the Hukbo ng Malayang Bayan, said the groups’ demand remained for Duterte to be impeached and convicted.
“Ang panawagan po namin, isang Pasko na wala at alis sa kapangyarihan si Vice President Sara Duterte,” Bayani said.
Members of Akbayan, Magdalo, Mamamayang Liberal, Tinig, and other groups marched toward the Senate, accusing Duterte of corruption, misuse of public funds, abuse of power, and threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Akbayan President Rafaela David also called Duterte an “akusadong plunderer na, Chinese-funded traitor pa,” alleging that the controversy extended beyond questions about her unexplained wealth to possible betrayal of the country.
Protesters chanted “Convict Sara,” “Sara guilty,” and “Traydor si Sara” as demonstrations continued along Diokno Boulevard in Pasay City.
More than 300 police officers were deployed outside the Senate to maintain peace and order.
