The Manila Police District (MPD) will deploy more than 3,000 police personnel to ensure security and maintain peace and order during the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

MPD spokesperson Police Major Philip Ines said the deployment is part of the district's security preparations as various protest groups are expected to stage demonstrations across Manila on the day of the President's address.

According to Ines, the Philippine National Police (PNP) respects the constitutional right of Filipinos to peacefully express their views and grievances.

"We respect the right of every Filipino to express their sentiments. The police will continue to exercise maximum tolerance, but we will also enforce the law against anyone who violates it," Ines said.

Authorities have identified four designated Freedom Parks in Manila where rallies may be held: Liwasang Bonifacio in Ermita, Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Plaza Moriones in Tondo, and Plaza Dilao in Paco.

In addition, the Mendiola Peace Arch, a traditional venue for demonstrations near Malacañang, is also expected to host protest activities.

The MPD said it remains on heightened alert and is coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to ensure the peaceful conduct of both the President's SONA and the planned protest actions while safeguarding public safety and order.
