More than 23,000 people have visited Manila South Cemetery since the weekend to clean the graves of their departed loved ones ahead of Undas, according to cemetery director John Mark Mendez.
In an interview with DZRH News by RH Jecelle Ricafort, Mendez assured the public that the cemetery is ready to accommodate visitors, with police personnel and medical staff prepared for deployment during the observance.
“All set na po dito sa Manila South,” Mendez said, adding that around 1,000 police personnel are expected to be deployed.
He also highlighted a new emergency feature integrated into the cemetery’s online “puntod finder,” allowing visitors to request assistance while inside the 25-hectare burial grounds.
Visitors can access the feature through www.manilasouthcemetery.com by providing their name and contact number and clicking the emergency button.
According to Mendez, an alert will appear on the cemetery’s command post monitor in less than a minute, indicating who needs assistance and their location within the cemetery.
Personnel will then contact the visitor to verify the emergency before dispatching the necessary assistance. The system can also accommodate multiple emergency notifications simultaneously.
Mendez said the feature is intended to help visitors, particularly those who may need medical assistance while visiting graves located far from the cemetery’s entrances.
