May 29, 2021 – Filipinos line up aboard repatriation flight back to the Philippines from Yangon, Myanmar.

More than 200 Filipinos have sought government assistance to return home following law enforcement operations targeting scam hubs in Myawaddy, Myanmar, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed over the weekend.

In a statement, the DFA said that through the Philippine Embassy in Yangon, it is closely monitoring the situation after Myanmar authorities launched coordinated raids on October 20, 2025.

The Embassy has so far received 222 active requests for repatriation assistance from Filipinos reportedly trapped in scam compounds.

Of this number, 66 Filipinos have successfully crossed into Thailand, while nine others are now under the custody of the Embassy in Yangon.

The DFA added that it is coordinating with Myanmar officials to finalize deportation procedures for those in holding camps and to rescue others who remain inside scam hubs.

“The Department remains committed to the safe repatriation of affected Filipinos through established Government-to-Government (G2G) channels,” the DFA said, assuring continued coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and both Myanmar and Thai authorities.

The DFA also reminded Filipinos to remain cautious when applying for jobs abroad, particularly those offered online, warning that human trafficking groups continue to lure victims with fake employment opportunities in Southeast Asia.
