Over 11,000 jobs are being offered by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Pasay City on May 1, Labor Day.

The job fair presently being held at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia (MOA) Complex began at 8:00 Friday morning and will continue until 4:00 in the afternoon.

This morning, around 600 applicants were queued, with six hired on the spot, reported RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.

Among the newly-hired workers was Rosalyn Roda, 25, a fresh graduate who travelled all the way from Leyte for the job fair. She told Ricafort that she had applied to ten jobs but was rejected from each one. She expressed gratitude for having been hired to work in the sales department of a local company.

Rico Maranan, 34, shares a similar story. Maranan, a resident of Naic, Cavite, said he has been unemployed for three months and cannot believe his luck after being selected as an aircraft helper.

A little less than 80 companies or employers participated in the DOLE job fair, offering more than 9,000 positions for local employment and 2,000 slots for work overseas.

These companies are offering work in business process outsourcing, wholesale and retail trade, transport and logistics, tourism and hospitality, health and wellness, and in construction.

The job opportunities abroad include work based in 13 countries such as Cambodia, Japan, Australia, Papua New Guinea, United States, Qatar, Bahrain, and the Czech Republic.
