More than 1,000 police personnel were dismissed from service in 2025 as the Philippine National Police (PNP) stepped up its internal integrity monitoring, citing thousands of administrative cases filed against its own ranks.
According to PNP data, a total of 4,203 administrative cases were recorded during the year. Case resolutions led to the dismissal of 1,120 police officers, while 1,425 others were suspended.
The sanctions formed part of disciplinary actions imposed on 3,403 police personnel. Other penalties included demotion, reprimand, forfeiture of salary, restrictions and withdrawal on benefits.
Under the leadership of incumbent acting PNP Chief Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the PNP reported that 425 cases involving more than 700 personnel were acted upon between August 26 and December 31, 2025.
In an online post, Nartatez said the figures demonstrate that accountability within the police force is applied fairly and consistently.
“These figures show that accountability in the PNP is not selective and not superficial. We have a clear process, every complaint is investigated and all sides are heard,” Nartatez said. “We decide based on facts and due process, whether that leads to penalties or to exoneration.”
The PNP reiterated its commitment to internal cleansing, noting that dismissal proceedings are ongoing against four police officers involved in indiscriminate firing incidents during the recent holiday season.
