The camp of Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Wednesday denied reports on the allegations that the former Speaker used Pacifico ‘Curlee’ Discaya and Sarah Discaya as "fronts" to purchase property in Makati.

In a video released, Ade Fajardo, spokesperson for Romualdez, emphasized that the former Speaker has "no knowledge or involvement" in the alleged transaction and has never met the Discayas, describing the claims as “outright baseless.”

“Romualdez has not met the Discayas and has only heard of them based on what is being said in the media. As such, the claim in the report about using the Discayas as a front in a property purchase is outright baseless,” he added.

Fajardo also cited sworn testimony from Curlee Discaya during a House hearing in September 2025, in which Discaya stated that he had no direct dealings with Romualdez and that the former Speaker’s name was only mentioned by others.

“Mr. Discaya further explained that the Speaker's name was merely being used or name-dropped by others without personal knowledge, meeting, or transaction on his part. This sworn testimony is part of the official congressional record and directly contradicts the insinuations now being revived in public discourse,” Fajardo said.

“Let us be reminded that allegations cannot override testimony given under oath. Facts cannot be replaced by speculation,” he added.

The clarification from Romualdez’s camp comes after Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo ‘Ping’ Lacson said that a witness could allegedly confirm a connection between Romualdez and the Discayas.

Lacson mentioned during a Kapihan sa Senado session on Wednesday that Romualdez reportedly purchased property in a plush subdivision in Makati City through the Discayas.

Fajardo stressed that allegations must be backed by evidence, not speculation and quoted Lacson: “Noise does not convict, neither does it indict even [those] who may be perceived as the most guilty in the flood control saga. Only evidence does.”
