The Ospital ng Maynila has successfully carried out its first angioplasty procedures, marking a significant milestone in delivering advanced cardiac care within a local government-run hospital.

Manila City Health Officer Grace Padilla announced that two procedures were completed on March 27, following the opening of the hospital’s catheterization laboratory in September 2025, which initially handled basic angiograms.

Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that opens blocked or narrowed arteries in the heart using a catheter and stent, helping restore blood flow and prevent heart attacks. Unlike open-heart surgery, patients can recover within one to two days.

Padilla emphasized that the service, which typically costs ₱1 million to ₱1.5 million in private hospitals, is being offered for free or at minimal cost by the city government, making life-saving treatment more accessible to residents.
