Davey Langit, a star of the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) scene, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, at the age of 38.
His wife, Therese Villarante-Langit, confirmed the loss on social media the following day.
“Yesterday, my husband, our best friend, brother, son, bandmate, collaborator, favorite guitar player, master storyteller, and the kindest, brightest, most beautiful person—fought fiercely ‘til the very end,” she penned in a heartfelt post.
No official cause of death has been made public, although the couple previously announced that Langit was battling a rare spinal infection, diagnosed in August this year.
Therese said her late husband loved life more than anyone she’s ever known and loved music and songwriting “with such fire.”
Langit first delighted music lovers during his time as a contestant on “Pinoy Dream Academy” Season 1 in 2006.
He would later create and perform tracks like “Wedding Song” and “Selfie Song.” His talent took center stage at the 2016 Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs competition, where his song, “Dalawang Letra,” performed by The Itchyworms, won the grand prize.
In addition, he also worked on songs such as “Cool Off” and “Time In” by household name Yeng Constantino.
Therese announced that two memorials will be held in celebration of Langit’s life—the first at the Phoenix Memorial Chapels & Crematory Inc. in Laguna from October 23 to 26 and the second at St. Peter Urdaneta in Pangasinan from October 27 to 29.
