A bus carrying youth participants from Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City, figured in an accident along Marilaque Road in Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta, Quezon, on Monday, December 29, leaving one youth leader dead and several others injured.
The group was on its way to a youth leadership camp when the vehicle overturned.
In their released statement, the Quezon City Government confirmed that 47 individuals, including the bus driver, were involved in the incident. Of these, 40 sustained minor injuries, while seven suffered serious injuries and were rushed to East Avenue Medical Center and Quezon City General Hospital for further treatment. Some victims initially received first aid at the Claro M. Recto Memorial Hospital in Infanta.
Authorities said the group belonged to Kabataan Bagong Silang (KBS) and was traveling in coordination with the Quezon City Social Welfare and Development Office. Emergency teams from the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the local government of Infanta, led by Mayor L.A. Ruanto, and the Philippine Red Cross immediately responded to the scene.
The Quezon City Government expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and assured full medical, legal, and logistical support to all affected families. The City Legal Department is coordinating with investigators to determine accountability should negligence be established.
Officials also urged motorists to exercise caution along Marilaque Road as authorities continue their investigation. The Quezon City Government thanked national and local agencies for their swift response and assured continued assistance to the victims and their families.
