The Office of the Ombudsman has warned government workers against using fuel allocated for government vehicles for private vehicles amid rising fuel costs.
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla issued the warning following the dismissal of former Bohol Second District Provincial Board Member Vierna Mae Boniel-Maglasang for two counts of serious dishonesty.
Boniel-Maglasang was found to have used 100 liters of government-allocated gasoline in 2024 for private vehicles. The Ombudsman also ordered the forfeiture of her retirement benefits, cancellation of eligibility, and perpetual disqualification from holding public office.
“Acts like this destroy the image of government,” Remulla said. “Ang mga ganitong gawain—kasama na ang mga higop gasolina, pagkarga sa hindi government vehicle, at pamemeke ng mga resibo—ay hindi ipagsasawalang-bahala ng ahensya.”
The Ombudsman said government officials found guilty of similar acts will face the harshest penalties provided by law.
