The Office of the Ombudsman is set to file charges on Thursday, June 4, against several individuals allegedly involved in a flood control project anomaly in Bulacan, according to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon.
In an interview with reporters, Dizon confirmed that the upcoming filing will take place at the Malolos Regional Trial Court and will include multiple respondents, though he declined to identify them or disclose the total number of individuals to be charged.
He said the group includes a “big fish,” whose identity will be revealed once the cases are formally filed.
“Meron pang mga parating na kaso. In fact, tomorrow, meron ulit ipa-file sa Bulacan naman. Hintayin niyo na lang kung sinong malaking isda ito. Hintayin niyo na lang bukas,” Dizon said in an interview on Wednesday, June 3.
The DPWH chief made the remarks following an inspection of the Matalahib Creek Pumping Station in Quezon City with Joy Belmonte and Dr. Mahar Lagmay of the UP Resilience Institute – NOAH Center.
Dizon said the government’s anti-corruption drive will continue under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., stressing that accountability measures will not stop.
“Sana matuto na sila at matakot na sila kasi talagang hindi titigil si PBBM na ipakulong ‘yung mga dapat ipakulong,” he added.
The Ombudsman has previously filed cases against Senator Jinggoy Estrada, who is currently on trial before the Sandiganbayan, as well as several officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) over alleged irregularities in flood control projects. Among those charged is former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, who is also facing proceedings before the Sandiganbayan.
