The Office of the Ombudsman is set to file numerous cases against those implicated in the flood control scam “within 30 days,” according to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.

“Marami po. Maraming nakalagay po doon na kakasuhan namin. Merong mga congressman na kasama doon,” said Remulla in an ambush interview on Friday.

The ombudsman confirmed that several officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and congressmen are set to face charges, including former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Elizalde “Zaldy” Co, who is linked to his company’s botched contracts in Oriental Mindoro.

“Malamang kasama (si Zaldy Co), kasi ang naalala ko, may Mindoro case na kasama sa mga finile sa amin,” he stated.

He also emphasized that the priority is the implementation of freeze orders against the individuals involved. He added that in the coming days, he will be signing or coordinating the issuance of suspension orders to immediately suspend officials found guilty of corruption in the flood control projects across various provinces.

However, it remains uncertain whether any senators will be included among those to be charged, according to Remulla, “Senators, hindi pa ako sigurado kung nandoon na.”

When asked how many cases he expects to file within the next month, he replied that he cannot provide a precise estimate as several cases—which are around eight to ten—are already under review.

He noted that each case is being carefully evaluated and that the process will be expedited, unlike previous practices that were slow.

“Talagang ito, kailangang bilisan namin ito. Paspasan ito kasi gano’n naman talaga dapat e. Ang korapsyon matagal nang nangyayari ‘yan e, the deadline is yesterday, sinasabi ko lagi,” the ombudsman added.
