Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla confirmed on Friday that Senator Robinhood “Robin” Padilla has filed a response to the obstruction of justice complaint against him.

According to Remulla, the personnel tasked with logging all correspondence between the Office of the Ombudsman and other parties failed to log Padilla’s response.

Instead, they sent the senator’s response straight to the division overseeing the case.

Remulla said he has written to Padilla about the matter.

“In-acknowledge namin ‘yan. In fact, sinulatan ko si Senator Padilla tungkol dito. Kasi nga, nagkaroon ng problema sa opisina mismo. ‘Yung ating procedure dito, is contained in an office order, sa rules ng Ombudsman, ay hindi sinunod ng nagla-log. Kaya under investigation ngayon ‘yung nagla-log ng communications,” the Ombudsman told reporters during a press briefing.

He said the personnel in question committed a “grave offense” and is currently under investigation.

“Ang communication ngayon, kailangan, ma-log kaagad. So sa araw na ito, alam namin kung ano ang dumating, at kung anong status, makikita namin ang bawat dokumento. Dito, hindi niya ni-record. Diniretso niya. That is a grave offense when it comes to an office like the Ombudsman’s office,” Remulla said.

As for the complaint against Senators Padilla and Alan Peter Cayetano, the Office has yet to decide which court will hear the case.

Remulla said they are considering regional trial courts or the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Padilla and Cayetano are both facing an obstruction of justice complaint in relation to Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s escape from Senate premises. Prior to his departure from the building, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) attempted to serve Dela Rosa an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC).
