Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla is ready to establish a fact-finding team to collect information and further evidence in connection with the investigation into Vice President (VP) Sara Duterte’s confidential funds, RH 5 Val Gonzales reported.
In an ambush interview with the media, Remulla said on Monday that the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President may be used as a reference if the investigation proceeds.
This comes after a petition filed by the groups Akbayan Partylist and Tindig Pilipinas, appealing to the anti-graft body to investigate VP Duterte’s use of confidential and intelligence funds.
However, since the opposition coalition only submitted the letter this morning, it has yet to reach his office, he said.
“Wala akong sinusunod na ano [timeline] rito, basta sakin, kung anong kayang gawin, gawin na. Basta acts with urgency all the time,” Remulla stated when asked by the media if he intends to act on the issue involving VP Duterte before February.
Furthermore, Remulla clarified that they do not have the authority to remove the Vice President from office, as she is an impeachable official.
He further stressed that their actions will be based solely on their mandate, as with any other case, and that it will ultimately be up to the courts to decide.
