Olivia Rodrigo surprised fans Tuesday, Aug. 25 (Manila Time), with the surprise release of her song “serena joy” on streaming platforms.
The Filipino-American pop star announced the track’s digital release after previously making only 500 physical CDs available on Aug. 21.
“Surprise!!! Serena Joy out on streaming platforms now,” Rodrigo said in a social media post, adding that a portion of the song’s net proceeds will go to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund.
Rodrigo organized the all-women Daisy Chain Fields music festival on August 29 in California, with proceeds from the fund going to organizations that support women and girls.
The event will feature Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, The Breeders, Bikini Kill, and special guests like Stevie Nicks and Karen O.
The surprise release allows more fans to listen to “serena joy” while contributing to the fund through the song’s earnings.
