The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) continued its monitoring and environmental response operations after the emergency beaching of the cargo vessel LCT MSCI 1 off the waters of Barangay La Virgen Milagrosa in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, authorities said on Tuesday.

All 15 crew members were safely brought ashore and were reported to be in good physical condition following the incident.

During initial inspection, responders detected a strong odor and confirmed oil leakage coming from the vessel. In response, the PCG, together with partner agencies, deployed two segments of oil spill booms in an effort to contain the spread of pollutants and protect nearby coastal areas.

On June 9, response teams recorded around 100 liters of an oily water mixture that had reached a roughly 15-meter stretch of shoreline near the incident area.

Officials also observed that earlier-deployed containment booms had shifted from their original position due to prevailing sea conditions.

Cleanup efforts were intensified with the deployment of absorbent pads and additional absorbent booms to recover the spilled material. Used cleanup materials were placed in drums for proper disposal.

The Coast Guard said it continues to closely monitor the vessel’s condition, assess possible environmental impacts, and coordinate with partner agencies to mitigate further damage to the marine environment under its ongoing environmental protection campaign.

Authorities said further updates will be issued as the situation develops.
