Calvin Oftana has been added to the Gilas Pilipinas roster for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, replacing Justin Brownlee, who will miss the tournament because of an injury.

The TNT Tropang 5G forward was named a late addition to the national team and is expected to join Gilas’ preparations ahead of its campaign in Group C.

“Calvin Oftana is stepping in as our 12th man. He is arriving this afternoon. We hope in time to make our practice schedule today,” Gilas head coach Tim Cone said.

Cone said Oftana had always been part of the team’s considerations but his health status had initially been uncertain. The 29-year-old forward has since returned to TNT practice and was cleared to play.

“Because of the system we are running and his previous experience in the window teams, he’s a plug-and-play player and will fit right in,” Cone said.

Oftana last played for Gilas Pilipinas in the third window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in March.

Gilas will open its Asian Games campaign against Bahrain in Group C on Sept. 11 at noon Manila time, according to the official 2026 Asian Games website.

Brownlee’s absence is a blow to Gilas, which will now turn to Oftana to help fill the void as the Philippines begins its bid in Aichi-Nagoya.
