EJ Obiena delivered a season-best performance to secure the silver medal at the Meeting Madrid 2026, clearing 5.85 meters on his second attempt.
Germany’s Bo Kanda Lita Baehre won the competition by clearing 5.90 meters, while Portugal’s Pedro Buaro equaled Obiena’s 5.85 meters but took bronze after requiring three attempts to surpass the bar.
The Filipino pole vaulter had previously cleared a season-best 5.80 meters in Budapest before surpassing it with a 5.85-meter effort in Madrid, marking his top jump of the season and highlighting his growing momentum on the international circuit.
“Thank you for having us. Will get this bar next time,” Obiena said after the competition, referring to his bid to clear the 5.90-meter mark.
The result adds another podium finish for the Filipino standout, who remains among the world’s top pole vaulters heading into the next leg of the athletics season.
