A 35-year-old nurse from the City Health Office of Catbalogan City, Samar, died after a concrete slab fell on him while he was waiting for transportation at a docking area in Sierra Island, Barangay Canhawan Guti, Catbalogan City on Thursday, August 27.
According to a report by Jimmy Angay-Angay, Police Lieutenant Milandro Tuazon, deputy chief of the Catbalogan City Police Station, identified the victim only by his alias “Nel.” She was single and a resident of Barangay Canlapwas, Catbalogan City.
Police said Nel was part of a team that conducted a Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity in Barangay Canhawan Gote.
After completing their activity, the group proceeded to the docking area to wait for their vehicle back to Catbalogan City.
While Nel was seated under a waiting shed, a portion of the structure suddenly collapsed, causing a concrete slab to fall on him.
Several residents and daycare teachers immediately came to him aid and helped remove her from underneath the fallen concrete.
He was rushed to Samar Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine what caused the concrete slab to collapse and to establish other details surrounding the incident.
