No price hike for basic goods until April 30 – DTI
by Luwela Amor08 April 2026

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has assured the public that the prices of basic necessities and prime commodities will remain stable until April 30.

“We can announce that there will be no price increase for the basic necessities and prime commodities until April 30,” DTI Secretary Cristina Roque said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.

This comes after ther DTI announced last week that current prices of basic goods will remain unchanged until April 16.

The assurance covers 205 products listed under the DTI’s stockkeeping units (SKU), which include essential food items and household goods. Roque encouraged consumers to refer to this list when shopping to ensure they are aware of the current prices.

“For the basic necessities and prime commodities—the 205 products on the DTI list—there will be no price increase up to April 30,” Roque said.

“So if we want to know the products that are within the list of DTI, makikita po ito nakapaskill sa groceries and supermarkets, and nakapaskil din po ito sa website ng DTI and social media sites ng DTI,” it added.

“So dapat alam po natin kung magkano yung mga prices ng basic necessities and prime commodities na nasa list ng DTI. So we can be assured na itong mga prices na ito ay stable and there's no price increase up to April 30.”

Roque said the announcement follows a meeting held on Monday with manufacturers, who agreed to maintain current prices despite the continued rise in petroleum costs.

Products covered under this agreement include canned goods, bread such as pandesal, laundry soaps, and other essential commodities.

Roque also reminded business owners to consult DTI regional offices or Negosyo Centers for available opportunities and programs.

“And for all the negosyantes out there, if you want to know what offerings, what opportunities that the Department of Trade and the Philippine government has for you, please go to the different regional offices nationwide or the different negosyo centers,” she said.

The agency said it will continue monitoring prices to protect consumers from potential increases in daily expenses.

This comes amid rising inflation in the country, which the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported that the country’s inflation rate surged to 4.1% in March 2026, up from 2.4% in February, driven largely by higher fuel and food costs linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
