MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. reminded the public that there are no policy changes regarding dual citizenship or lawful permanent resident travel rights in the United States.
The reiteration came after the Embassy was made “aware of false information circulating on social media platforms that is causing concern among the Filipino community in the United States,” according to its statement.
“The U.S. government has made no policy changes regarding dual citizenship or lawful permanent resident travel rights,” it added.
The Embassy also urged the Filipino community to verify the information they are receiving and to avoid sharing “unverified content” to prevent the proliferation of false information.
“We urge the Filipino community to verify information through official government sources, avoid sharing unverified content, and report false information to the platform where it is published,” the Embassy said.
It also suggested to refrain from making legal decisions regarding one’s citizenship or related issues based on social media content.
“Please do not make legal decisions, such as renouncing your Philippine citizenship, based on social media content,” the Embassy stated.
“Renunciation of Philippine citizenship is a serious, irreversible legal action,” the Embassy emphasized.
For questions, the public may contact the Philippine Embassy or the nearest Philippine consulate, the statement added.
