No Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) or their family members residing in the Caraga Region have been injured, displaced, or affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the southern coast of Mindanao on Monday, June 8, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.

The DMW on Tuesday, June 9, said that only mild tremors were felt in the said region due to its distance from the earthquake’s epicenter. Moreover, the agency noted that the region was not included in any tsunami warning advisory issued after the earthquake.

“At present, there are also no reports of major damage to homes, public facilities, critical infrastructure, or other properties in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands,” the DMW stated.

Local government units (LGUs) are expected to conduct structural and safety inspections of buildings and other infrastructure through their respective City and Municipal Engineering Officers to ensure the safety of the residents.

According to the agency, their Regional Office will closely monitor the situation and coordinate with agencies and local authorities to safeguard the welfare of the OFWs and their families.
