Malacañang on Thursday said no Filipino has so far been reported killed or affected by the deadly flash floods that hit areas along the Nepal-Tibet border.
Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro, citing a report from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), said there were no reported Filipino casualties as of Thursday morning.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said there are currently 18 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Nepal.
Meanwhile, the DFA reported 128 Filipinos in the country, most of whom are Filipino women married to Nepalese nationals.
“Nakikipag-coordinate na ang pamahalaan sa Nepalese authorities at sa Filipino community upang matukoy kung may mga Pilipinong naapektuhan ng insidente,” said Castro.
She also said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was saddened by the tragedy.
The Palace also called for prayers for the safety and recovery of those affected by the disaster.
Nearly 1,500 people, including around 800 foreigners, have been reported missing across Nepal and China's Tibet after a wall of mud and rocks collapsed into a Himalayan river on Wednesday, triggering catastrophic flash floods in nearby towns and valleys.
According to Reuters, 157 bodies had been recovered as of Wednesday night, citing Nepal police.
