The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has reminded the public to give "high respect" to the Philippine flag as it symbolizes the country's identity as a Filipino.
The reminder was issued following an image showing a Philippine flag with a print of an eagle, which was reportedly created by supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte in Melbourne, Australia.
According to a DZRH reporter Boy Gonzales, this serves as a reminder for Filipinos not to engage in similar acts, as they could face legal consequences.
Under Republic Act No. 8491, a person who disrespects the Philippine flag may face imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than two years.
They may also be subject to a fine of not less than P5,000 but not more than P20,000.
