The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has issued a Yellow Alert over the Visayas Grid on Tuesday, citing low power reserves.
According to NGCP, the alert is in effect from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The available capacity stands at 2,889 megawatts (MW), while peak demand is projected at 2,489 MW.
A Yellow Alert is declared when the operating margin is insufficient to cover the transmission of the generating unit in the grid, indicating a thin power supply cushion.
NGCP noted that there is a high system of demand, and a significant number of plants on unplanned or forced outages and derated capacities.
It was previously reported that Visayas Grid was under Yellow Alert yesterday, August 4. It started at 6 p.m and ended at 7:38 p.m.
Moreover, Luzon and Mindanao grids are under normal condition, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure grid stability.
