The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Friday named Atty. John Rex Laudiangco as acting spokesperson of the poll body.
Laudiangco, who is an official of COMELEC's law department, was appointed days before the country holds a historic vote on May 9 for the next local and national officials of the Philippines.
"You are hereby designated as Acting Spokesperson of the Commission, effective immediately," the memorandum to Laudiangco read.
"You shall report directly to Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia, the Commissioner-in-Charge (CIC) on Public Information and Education," it added.
He replaces former spokesperson James Jimenez after he was relived from media coordination duties.
Jimenez will continue serving as head of the education and information department, and wished his successor well in his duty.
"For my part, I shall continue to serve as faithfully as I have these past 18 years, with due deference to the will and wisdom of the commission," he said in a statement.
The former spokesperson was suspended after a task force found there was enough cause to launch a probe on the aborted final leg presidential and vice presidential debates.
