Mary Egida Rivera, a Filipino actress best known to global audiences for her role as Ned Leeds’ grandmother in the 2021 Marvel film "Spider-Man: No Way Home," has died. She was 82.

Rivera passed away on April 15, 2026, in Honolulu, according to her family. A relative said she suffered a stroke and was later placed on life support.

Born on June 2, 1943, in Iloilo, Philippines, Rivera built a quiet but meaningful career that ultimately reached international audiences through her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Though her role in Spider-Man: No Way Home was brief, it resonated strongly with viewers, particularly Filipino fans who saw their culture reflected on the global stage.

Rivera was said to be “very proud” to take on the role, embracing the opportunity to portray a Filipino grandmother in a major Hollywood production.

In the film, she shared the screen with a star-studded cast that included Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Zendaya and Jamie Foxx.
