Nearly 19,000 illegal firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices, and improvised cannons locally known as "boga" were confiscated by the Southern Police District (SPD) across Southern Metro Manila during New Year operations.

According to RH Jecelle Ricafort's report on dzRH's Operation Tulong, authorities estimated the total value of the seized items at more than ₱452,000.

Most of the illegal fireworks were confiscated in Muntinlupa City, followed by Taguig City, Parañaque City, Las Piñas City, Pasay City, Makati City, and the Municipality of Pateros.

SPD Director Brigadier General Randy Arceo said the successful operations demonstrate the police force’s strong commitment to ensuring a safe and injury-free New Year celebration for the public.

According to Arceo, every illegal firecracker or pyrotechnic device removed from the streets helps prevent potential accidents that could lead to injuries or even loss of life.

He also reiterated a stern reminder to the public that the use, sale, and possession of illegal firecrackers and explosive devices are strictly prohibited under the law.
