

Around 147 firecracker-related incidents were recorded in Metro Manila during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 celebrations, resulting in injuries to 35 individuals, RH Jecelle Ricafort reports.
According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), a total of 147 firecracker-related incidents and 10 cases of indiscriminate firing were documented across the region during the holiday period.
Authorities said 11 violators were arrested, while more than ₱1.4 million worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic items were confiscated in various operations.
The seized illegal fireworks have already been destroyed to ensure they will no longer circulate in the market or be used by the public.
NCRPO Director Major General Anthony Aberin commended the cooperation of the public and the support of various government agencies, noting that responsible behavior and coordinated enforcement contributed to a generally safe and peaceful holiday season.
He added that comprehensive security measures implemented throughout Metro Manila played a key role in ensuring orderly Christmas and New Year celebrations in the National Capital Region.
