The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) raised its alert level to Blue Alert on Friday as Tropical Storm Queenie continued to move over the Philippine Sea.

According to a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, the NDRRMC Operations Center at Camp Aguinaldo shifted from White Alert to Blue Alert effective 8 a.m. Friday under Memorandum No. 269, series of 2026, signed by Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator for Operations Assistant Secretary Laurence Mina.

As of 8 a.m. on Friday, Queenie was last located about 885 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon. While the weather system is not expected to make landfall in the Philippines, authorities said they would continue to monitor its movement.

The weather system is forecast to intensify into a typhoon by Sunday and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility either Sunday or early Monday.

Under the Blue Alert, concerned NDRRMC member agencies and regional disaster risk reduction and management councils are directed to continuously monitor conditions in their respective areas, implement preparedness measures and submit assessments of areas that could potentially be affected.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine National Police were also directed to assign duty officers at the NDRRMC.

Virtual emergency operations centers at Camp Aguinaldo will likewise be activated to facilitate coordination among government agencies as authorities monitor Queenie's movement.
