Heavy rains continued to pour over parts of Metro Manila, on Thursday morning as the combined effects of Tropical Storm Maymay and the southwest monsoon (Habagat) continued to affect several parts of the country.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), 9,144 individuals have been displaced by the severe weather. Of the total, more than 6,000 are currently staying in evacuation centers, while the remaining evacuees have sought temporary shelter in other locations.
The NDRRMC also reported that 80,633 individuals have been affected by the storm across several regions, including the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Flooding remains a major concern, with 83 flooded areas recorded across the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM.
Despite the widespread impact of the weather disturbance, the NDRRMC said that no casualties have yet been officially reflected in its latest situation report as of Thursday morning, August 6.
This comes even as the Philippine National Police (PNP) earlier reported that two people were killed in Rodriguez, Rizal, after a rockslide struck their residence during the heavy rains. The incident has yet to be reflected in the NDRRMC's official casualty data.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC reported that 15 roads and bridges remain impassable due to flooding and other storm-related damage in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rains persist and have urged residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation advisories issued by local officials.
