The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has warned the public against a possible increase in carnapping and motornapping incidents in Metro Manila during the Undas 2026 observance and the upcoming holiday season.
NCRPO officer-in-charge Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano urged motorists and vehicle owners to take extra precautions to protect their vehicles, particularly when choosing parking areas, DZRH'S Jecelle Ricafort reported.
Abrahano warned that criminals could take advantage of crowded parking areas and unattended vehicles to carry out theft.
He advised vehicle owners to park only in secure, well-lit and authorized parking facilities.
Motorists were also reminded not to leave valuable items in plain sight, always lock their vehicle doors and avoid leaving their engines running while unattended.
Meanwhile, Abrahano directed police units across Metro Manila to remain vigilant against vehicle-related crimes and strengthen their presence in areas prone to such incidents.
Police visibility and patrol operations will also be intensified in crowded areas, transport hubs, parking facilities and other locations where motorists may be vulnerable to criminal activities.
The NCRPO chief also urged the public to immediately report incidents of carnapping and vehicle theft through the 911 emergency hotline to ensure a prompt police response.
The warning follows a reported incident in Taguig City earlier this week, in which a person allegedly took a vehicle belonging to their employer.
