The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has assured readiness to provide support inside the Senate if assistance is requested, as authorities maintain heightened security around the area amid potential protest actions.
In a report of RH Jecelle Ricafort, NCRPO Director MGen. Anthony Aberin said police presence is currently limited to perimeter security outside the Senate compound, with no need yet to deploy additional forces inside the building.
Aberin added that coordination has already been established with the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms and other law enforcement agencies to ensure smooth security operations.
More than 200 personnel from the Civil Disturbance Unit have been stationed at the Senate gates to maintain order and prevent any escalation linked to gatherings of supporters of Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
Authorities said the deployment aims to ensure that protest actions remain peaceful and do not breach Senate grounds. While the police have been instructed to exercise maximum tolerance, they warned that arrests will be made if any individuals turn violent.
Aberin also appealed for discipline among protesters, stressing the role of police in maintaining order.
“Sa ating mga kababayan na lalawag po sa protesta, pairalin po natin ang disiplina sa inyong hanay na sa ganun nakaiwas po tayo sa potensyal na maging problema. Ang inyong kapulisan ay andito para pangatilihin ang ayusan at kapayapaan. Pero the moment po na may nilalabag po kayo ng batas ay amin pong gagawin ang aming sinumpaang tungkulin,” he said.
Security conditions outside the Senate have since stabilized following earlier tense encounters between police forces and supporters, while barbed wire installations at the gate were partially reduced after being reinstalled the previous day.
