Operatives from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) dismantled an illegal gun-running ring on Saturday, May 10, following a buy-bust operation in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City.
The operation, conducted by the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG), led to the arrest of four individuals, including two gunsmiths, who were caught selling firearms without proper authorization.
The suspects face charges under Republic Act No. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and the Omnibus Election Code (Batas Pambansa Blg. 881), which is in effect during the election period.
Recovered from the suspects were various firearms and ammunition, including:
- One ARMSCOR shotgun
- One S&W .357 Magnum revolver
- Two .45 caliber pistols
- Two .38 caliber revolvers
- One shotgun with a serial number
- Seven pieces of 12-gauge ammunition
- Six rounds of live 9mm ammunition
- Assorted gun parts and accessories
- Also seized were marked buy-bust money laced with UV powder, confirming the illegal transaction.
The suspects were taken into custody for further investigation and documentation.
PMGen Anthony A. Aberin, NCRPO Regional Director, highlighted the importance of the operation in preventing firearms from falling into the wrong hands, especially ahead of the 2025 elections.
"Hindi lulusot ang mga manliligalig sa isang NCRPO na hindi natutulog. Walang tigil ang ating pagmamanman at magpapatuloy ang ating mga operasyon upang makamit natin ang isang mapayapang halalan sa Metro Manila," he said.
