The new officer-in-charge of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has warned parents and teachers about the growing threat of online violent or nihilistic grooming following a series of violent incidents in schools.

According to a report of RH Jecelle Ricafort, Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said parents and teachers should be aware that online grooming linked to violent or nihilistic behavior is happening and that children’s online activities should be closely monitored.

“Online violent/nihilistic grooming” is a thing. It is happening. Kailangan mabantayan natin ang mga anak natin sa kanilang online presence,” Abrahano said, underscoring the need for greater awareness among families and schools.

Abrahano stressed that awareness among parents, teachers and students is crucial in detecting potential threats before they escalate into violence.

“Early detection is key,” Abrahano said in an interview with DZRH News, emphasizing the need for constant coordination between police and school communities.

He said schools should also be prepared to respond when signs of violent or nihilistic grooming are detected, including teaching members of the school community what actions to take in such situations.

“The general direction is to prevent it at all cost,” Abrahano said.

He identified early detection, coordination and awareness as key measures in preventing possible acts of violence in schools.

Abrahano urged parents and teachers to remain vigilant about children’s online presence, particularly as young people increasingly spend time on social media and other online platforms.

He also called for continued coordination between law enforcement and school communities to strengthen prevention efforts and ensure that potential threats are addressed before they result in violence.
