The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is on alert due to a possible Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) rally on Monday, July 6, following Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s arrest.
In a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort, NCRPO Director PMGen. Anthony Aberin said his ranks always consider such possibilities and prepare for them.
Previously, the INC staged a three-day protest backing Marcoleta, who faces a plunder case before the Sandiganbayan.
Almost 6,000 police officers have been stationed around the Senate premises, aside from those deployed at the Film Center, also in Pasay City, where the protesters are believed to gather today before marching towards the Senate.
Aberin said present police numbers will be augmented as the situation dictates.
The director admitted that police are challenged by the simultaneous activities at the Senate and at the Sandiganbayan.
In spite of this, they have devised “necessary adjustments” and have maximized their deployments for the first day of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Ang isang challenge kasi yesterday, paano ‘yung pagsabay ‘yung mga activities doon sa Sandigan(bayan) at tsaka dito sa Senado. But of course, despite those challenges, we have made the necessary adjustments and kagaya nga ng sabi ko kanina, we will maximize our deployment here because we will be expecting na there will be rallies coming from the pro-impeachment and anti-impeachment. Pero considering all possibilities, we would like to assure you na… your NCRPO is always here,” Aberin told the press.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Marcoleta’s mugshot will be taken with the senator’s wig still on, according to a RH 52 Edniel Parrosa’s report.
