National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) official Atty. Jeremy Lotoc has been reassigned as the agency’s new regional director for Eastern Visayas.

Before his new assignment, Lotoc served as regional director of the NBI in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and previously headed the agency’s Cybercrime Division.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez introduced Lotoc as the “newly assigned” NBI regional director for Eastern Visayas.

Romualdez said he and Lotoc discussed measures to strengthen peace and security in the region, particularly in light of recent shooting incidents in schools.

“One of the things that I highlighted to the new director is the need to strengthen the advocacy for responsible gun safety and ownership, lalo na kaugnay ng mga nangyaring pamamaril sa mga paaralan. Dapat masiguro na hindi nabibigyan ng access sa firearms ang mga hindi qualified na humawak nito, lalo na ang mga minors,” Romualdez said

Romualdez and Lotoc also discussed strengthening cybersecurity measures in government agencies and other initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and order in Eastern Visayas.

Lotoc’s name recently made headlines after he testified as a prosecution witness in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

During his testimony, Lotoc discussed the NBI’s investigation into Duterte’s remarks during an online briefing on November 23, 2024, which allegedly included threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
