The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said that it will conduct a probe against Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte only if the bureau finds indications of his possible involvement in illicit activities, according to a Tuesday report.
During an ambush interview, NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said it is the bureau’s mandate to investigate any individual implicated in crime.
Emphasizing that no one is above the law, Matibag asserted that all reports of corruption are promptly investigated by the NBI, regardless of the concerned personalities’ positions, affiliations, and so on.
Matibag did not confirm whether he was the person Duterte spoke of when the lawmaker claimed someone had ordered an investigation into his family’s properties. The latter had not mentioned the bureau director’s name in his social media post regarding the matter.
Previously, Congressman Duterte said that a government agency tasked its Investigation Division for Public Corruption to look into their family wealth.
He also issued a message to a certain “Mr. Matibay,” asking him whether it is his family who owns in high-end residential villages such as homes in Forbes Park, Corinthians, or Valle Verde, and telling him not to liken the Duterte family to his “boss,” whom he described as mired in corruption.
