The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is currently verifying an online post claiming that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was seen aboard a yacht, amid heightened attention on his whereabouts as an ICC-wanted individual.
In an ambush interview, NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said authorities are exercising caution in assessing such reports, noting the possibility that the information may be misleading.
“Check natin, hindi ko pa nakita yun eh... baka kasi nililigaw tayo kaya maingat tayo,” Matibag said.
He also stated that, based on their assessment, Dela Rosa is likely still in the Philippines.
“Well, we cannot say... kasi naniniwala kaming na nandito pa,” he added.
Matibag further emphasized the difficulty of evading international monitoring mechanisms, citing the reach of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and Interpol.
“Mas mahirap kung haalis siya. There are about 122 countries na member ng ICC, Tapos almost all of the countries have obligation to the Interpol. So mas mahirap for him,” he said.
The NBI’s statement comes after former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson earlier denied allegations that Dela Rosa used his yacht to escape following a reported shooting incident in the Senate on May 13.
Authorities continue to verify circulating online claims as part of ongoing monitoring efforts.
