The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will summon officials of two local government units (LGUs) in Zamboanga Sibugay in connection with what authorities described as the “largest POGO bust” in the area, two years after the government banned Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said the bureau would invite local officials to shed light on how the operation managed to run on such a large scale.

The NBI is investigating the possibility that some local officials were involved in the illegal online gaming operation.

Matibag said the bureau is also looking into whether similar operations are being conducted in other parts of Mindanao, the Visayas, and the National Capital Region (NCR).

The crackdown was conducted Friday, Oct. 2 in the towns of Alicia and Siay under separate mission orders issued by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

The operation, led by the NBI’s Organized and Transnational Crime Division, resulted in the arrest and rescue of more than 200 foreign nationals, most of them Chinese.

Authorities recovered nearly 4,000 mobile phones, along with computers, laptops, and other technical equipment believed to have been used in online scam operations.

The NBI is also investigating whether the raided complex was being used for troll farm activities.
