The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to issue a subpoena against Nancy dela Rosa, the wife of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, in connection with statements she made regarding the May 13 Senate incident.
NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag confirmed in a press conference that the agency is currently preparing the subpoena, following allegations attributed to Nancy dela Rosa—relayed through Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano—that the senator allegedly used the incident as an opportunity to leave the Senate.
Matibag also said the NBI will issue subpoenas to other individuals who reportedly had recent contact with Senator dela Rosa during the period under investigation.
The bureau further stated that it is assessing whether Senator Robin Padilla still needs to be summoned, noting that he has already been charged with obstruction of justice by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
Padilla earlier admitted that he gave Senator dela Rosa a ride out of the Senate on May 14 and dropped him off in Makati City.
The NBI said the ongoing inquiry aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine if further legal actions are warranted.
