The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will file human trafficking charges against former congressman Mike Defensor in connection with a raid on a KTV bar in Pasig City on April 21, officials said.

NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said the complaint will be submitted to the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office on Friday.

Matibag said the case stems from the operation at the Chicago Family KTV, where authorities rescued about 54 alleged human trafficking victims.

“After pag-aralan yung kaso, lumalabas na talagang si Mike Defensor is part of the human trafficking na nangyari sa Chicago,” Matibag said.

He also said investigators observed changes in the facility that allegedly supported the illegal activity.

“It was observed na yung original design ng compound na ito ay binago to suit doon sa plano nila na human trafficking,” he said.

The bureau had earlier filed charges against Defensor’s wife, Julie Rose Defensor, and their son, Miguel Gabriel Defensor. Investigators said the two were listed as “owners in the articles of incorporation” of the establishment.

The Defensor camp has denied the allegations, calling them malicious and baseless.

Matibag said investigators, after reviewing the evidence, found grounds to include the former lawmaker in the case.
