The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is pressing forward with its nationwide manhunt for gaming tycoon Charlie "Atong" Ang, despite recent reservations expressed by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla regarding the bureau's integrity.

In an interview with DZRH, NBI spokesperson Palmer Mallari confirmed that the bureau has expanded its search operations across various regions of the Philippines, as reported by RH Jecelle Ricafort.

Mallari emphasized that the pursuit is not limited to Metro Manila or Ang’s known properties, signaling a broad effort to locate the businessman.

The NBI previously stated that they are following "reliable leads" regarding the whereabouts of the tycoon, who has been linked as the alleged mastermind behind the high-profile case of the missing sabungeros (cockfighters).

Remulla’s Concerns Over NBI Ties

The continued operation comes in the wake of candid remarks from DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla. The Secretary admitted to withholding requests for NBI assistance in this specific case due to fears of potential leaks or collusion.

Remulla pointed to past instances where NBI agents were reportedly deputized to serve as bodyguards for the gaming tycoon. He expressed concern that some personnel within the bureau might still maintain ties with Ang, potentially compromising the confidentiality of the manhunt.

Meanwhile, Spokesperson Palmer Mallari declined to comment on the allegations of internal ties to Ang.

NBI Director Lito Magno has yet to issue an official statement or respond to media inquiries regarding the DILG chief’s lack of confidence.

Despite the friction between the departments, the NBI maintains that its primary focus remains the apprehension of Ang to face the allegations leveled against him.
