The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has called on internet personality Xian Gaza to explain himself, following beauty queen Michelle Dee’s cyberlibel complaint against him.
In a Tuesday report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort, NBI Director Lito Magno said this was part of the process to get respondents to give their account concerning the issue.
If Gaza is not in the country, he said, he may simply send a statement to the bureau through the Philippine Embassy in the country he is currently staying in.
Magno said they will be examining the online posts Dee alleged were fake news in order to verify their accuracy.
“(To) authenticate and preservation ang mangyayari doon sa mga post, doon sa mga articles na lumabas sa social media. Binibigyan natin ang both sides to present their side. Kung wala siya, puwede siyang magpadala ng statement using our embassies abroad,” he told the media.
On Monday, Dee personally went to the NBI to file a cyberlibel complaint against Gaza and others behind a number of Facebook pages that are allegedly spreading false information about her.
This is the first instance the beauty queen has set foot in the bureau since being subject to a complaint by actress Rhian Ramos’ driver, who alleged assault and illegal detention.
The driver and personal assistant claimed he was coerced into admitting he had stolen an angpao containing sensitive photos from the condo unit he was supposedly mauled in after.
