The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) expressed confidence that Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa would eventually be located and arrested, saying he cannot remain in hiding indefinitely.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the bureau is continuously tracking the senator's whereabouts and has mobilized its intelligence network as part of its efforts to locate him.
According to Matibag, the agency is also utilizing available technology to help speed up the search for Dela Rosa.
The NBI chief said he believes the senator will ultimately be held accountable under the law, although he acknowledged that authorities face challenges in carrying out the manhunt.
Matibag noted that Dela Rosa's background in law enforcement and his extensive network of connections as a sitting senator complicate efforts to track him down.
He also pointed to the country's geography as an archipelagic nation, saying the numerous entry and exit points make it difficult for authorities to monitor all possible routes and allow fugitives to move from one location to another.
Despite these challenges, Matibag stressed that the NBI remains vigilant and is prepared to serve the arrest warrant issued against Dela Rosa by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The NBI director added that there have been no discussions so far regarding the possibility of offering a reward for information that could lead to the arrest of the ICC-wanted senator.
