The NBI Retirees and Ex-Employees Association Inc. (RexEAI) strongly criticized what it described as attempts by Senator Imee Marcos to influence the president to suspend National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag and several agents, while expressing full support for their law enforcement actions.

The group defended Matibag and his team, emphasizing that they were simply performing their mandated duties, including efforts related to the enforcement of an International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

In an official statement, the association said:

“We, the NBI Retirees and Ex-Employees Assn. Inc. (Rexeai), extend our unwavering support to Director Melvin Matibag and his dedicated team of agents. We commend their steadfast commitment to upholding the rule of law and their efforts to execute the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant of arrest against Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ de la Rosa.”

The group also criticized what it called the “coddling” of dela Rosa and his alleged evasion of accountability, particularly during his time in Senate “protective custody,” saying such actions undermine justice and accountability.

RexEAI further condemned the actions of Senate security personnel under Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca, citing the alleged discharge of firearms within Senate premises as reckless and dangerous.

“Such behavior not only endangers the lives of our agents, the press, and other people in the Senate, but also undermines the very fabric of law and order that we strive to uphold,” the statement added.

The group also denounced alleged efforts to interfere with NBI leadership, urging support for law enforcement officials to carry out their duties without intimidation or political pressure and calling for continued adherence to the rule of law.
