The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is preparing to take legal action against blogger Sass Sasot over her now-deleted social media post falsely claiming that NBI Director Melvin Santiago Matibag and Laguna Rep. Ann Matibag own a P72-million mansion in the United States.

During an interview on DZRH's Dos Por Dos on Wednesday, Matibag denied the allegation, saying the property being attributed to him and his wife is not theirs.

Sasot later apologized to the NBI chief and the Laguna lawmaker, saying the four-bedroom property in Baldwin Place, California, was not owned by the Matibag couple, contrary to her earlier post on July 22, 2026. The post has since been taken down.

Matibag said Sasot’s apology came after they reported her post to Meta for allegedly spreading "fake news."

He also clarified that the property is owned by a person who merely shares his name.

Matibag said the NBI is now preparing the appropriate legal action against those responsible for spreading the false claim.

"Tinatarget lamang po tayo politically nung mga tao na hindi sang-ayon sa atin," he noted.
